[1] Seuls, les Australiens et les Fuégiens seraient de véritables primitifs. Les Noirs sont au stade où Tacite observa les Germains. Les habitants des forêts du Cameroun et du Congo possèdent un arc qu'on dit très primitif; en fait, c'est une machine et non un outil, machine qui suppose un stade déjà très élevé. Les Moï de l'Annam sont archaïques et protohistoriques. L'ensemble de l'Asie septentrionale possède une grande civilisation, eskimoïde et mongoloïde.
