The Club of Rome is a global think tank and centre of innovation and initiative.
As a non-profit, non govermental organisation (NGO), it brings together scientists,
economists, businessmen, international high civil servants, heads of state and
former heads of state from all five continents who are convinced that the future
of humankind is not determined once and for all and that each human being can
contribute to the improvement of our societies.
The Club of Rome's mission is to act as a global catalyst of change that is
free of any political, ideological or business interest.
The Club of Rome contributes to the solution of what it calls the world problematique,
the complex set of the most crucial problems - political, social, economic,
technological, environmental, psychological and cultural - facing humanity.
It does so taking a global, long term and interdisciplinary perspective aware
of the increasing interdependence of nations and the globalisation of problems
that pose predicaments beyond the capacity of individual countries.

Worldwatch is a non profit public policy research organization dedicated to
informing policymakers and the public about emerging global problems and trends
and the complex links between the world economy and its environmental support
systems.
http://www.greenpeace.org/
Greenpeace is a non-profit organisation, with a presence in 40 countries across
Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.
To maintain its independence, Greenpeace does not accept donations from governments
or corporations but relies on contributions from individual supporters and foundation
grants.
As a global organisation, Greenpeace focuses on the the most crucial worldwide
threats to our planet's biodiversity and environment.
We campaign to:
--Stop climate change
--Protect ancient forests
--Save the oceans
--Stop whaling
--Say no to genetic engineering
--Stop the nuclear threat
--Eliminate toxic chemicals
--Encourage sustainable trade
Greenpeace has been campaigning against environmental degradation since 1971
when a small boat of volunteers and journalists sailed into Amchitka, an area
north of Alaska where the US Government was conducting underground nuclear tests.
This tradition of 'bearing witness' in a non-violent manner continues today,
and our ships are an important part of all our campaign work.
We exist to expose environmental criminals, and to challenge government and
corporations when they fail to live up to their mandate to safeguard our environment
and our future.
In pursuing our mission, we have no permanent allies or enemies. We promote
open, informed debate about society's environmental choices. We use research,
lobbying, and quiet diplomacy to pursue our goals, as well as high-profile,
non-violent conflict to raise the level and quality of public debate.
And we believe that the struggle to preserve the future of our planet is not
about us. It's about you. Greenpeace speaks for 2.8 million supporters worldwide,
and encourages many millions more than that to take action every day.
We take the name of our flagship, the Rainbow Warrior, from a North American
Cree Indian legend. It described a time when humanity's greed has made the Earth
sick. At that time, a tribe of people known as the Warriors of the Rainbow would
rise up to defend her.
As one of the longest banners we've ever made summed things up, "When the
last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish dead, we will discover
that we can't eat money."

World Trade Organization (WTO)
"We are writing the constitution of a single global economy"
-- former WTO Director, General Renato Ruggiero
Established in 1995, the World Trade Organization (WTO) is a powerful new global
commerce agency, which transformed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
(GATT) into an enforceable global commerce code. The WTO is one of the main
mechanisms of corporate globalization.
Under the WTO's system of corporate-managed trade, economic efficiency, reflected
in short-run corporate profits, dominates other values. Decisions affecting
the economy are to be confined to the private sector, while social and environmental
costs are borne by the public.

GATSwatch is a joint project of Corporate Europe Observatory and Transnational
Institute. One of the main objectives of the GATSwatch project is research and
analysis of the role and agenda of corporate lobbies with regards to the WTO
GATS 2000 negotiations. Results will be presented in a series of briefing papers
and fact sheets.
GATSwatch supports global networking against GATS through the GATSwatch web
site as well as through the GATSwatch mailing list. Outreach is also achieved
through workshops and by active participation in strategy meetings.
The GATSwatch website was launched in January 2001. It provides links to key
organisations and institutions as well as to key documents on GATS and the GATS
2000 negotiations. It is unique in bringing together the growing body of NGO
and academic critique on GATS as well as official government position papers
and documents of the corporate GATS proponents.
I regularly update and expand the GATSwatch website. If you find this site useful,
or if you have any comments regarding its content, please contact me by e-mail.

New Renaissance is a quarterly magazine serving as a forum for progressive discussion
on the future of society. Since 1990, it has been bringing a holistic perspective
to the economic, environmental, political, social, spiritual and cultural concerns
of today. As its name implies, New Renaissance, hopes to inspire a creative
burst of energy which will help humanity surmount its present global crisis.
New Renaissance thus highlights the writings of people with a positive approach
towards contemporary problems. In an age of increasing economic disparity New
Renaissance promotes ideas and programmes which will lead to a decentralised,
cooperative and democratic economic system, and advocates a new humanism in
which our concern is expanded to include all living beings.

Interspecies Inc. (IC)...
... merges aesthetics with ethology to help ground the human species' emotional,
spiritual, and cultural ties with nature. We sponsor artists, musicians, and
philosophers working to discover creative solutions to the ecological problems
of our day. Interspecies Inc. is best known for a 25 year program of musical
communication with free-swimming cetaceans. Certain dolphins and whales possess
a brain that exceeds our own in size and complexity, and these same species
utilize melody and rhythm to communicate among one another. At the very least,
creating music with cetaceans provides a unique context for exploring animal
behavior. Ultimately, we promote a model for communion between species.
